3 C. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 C. butter or margarine
2 C. sugar
3 eggs
1 C. milk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 C. Hershey's Chocolate Syrup
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. peppermint extract

Preheat oven to 350º.

Sift flour, baking powder, salt THREE X. Set aside. Beat butter with the sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk and vanilla. Pour 2/3 of batter into a greased and floured 10 inch tube pan. Blend the remaining 1/3 of batter with the following mix: Hershey's Syrup, baking soda and peppermint extract. Pour this combined chocolate batter over white batter. DO NOT MIX.
Bake for 45 minutes. Put foil over the tube pan and bake for an additional 20 -25 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes and turn out to completely cool.
Frost with favorite chocolate frosting. I think the Texas Cake frosting would work great. Here's that recipe:
Texas Cake Frosting:
Frosting: 1 stick butter or margarine, 5 T. milk, 2 T. cocoa, 1 lb. box powdered sugar, 1 C. chopped nuts

Boil butter, milk and cocoa, then add powdered sugar and stir until smooth. Add nuts.
