2 cups brown sugar
2 cups rolled oats
2 cups flour
1 cup shortening
1 tsp soda, dissolved in 1/3 cup hot water
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine sugar, oats and flour with shortening as for pie crumbs. Add the soda and hot water. Add vanilla. The dough should roll nicely into balls. press down with a glass dipped in sugar. Bake at 350º
