2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. boiling water
3 c. All-Bran or crushed Bran Flakes
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
5 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 1/4 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla (optional) to flavor

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve baking soda in boiling water and pour over bran flakes; let stand to soften. Cream shortening and sugar, beat in eggs. Stir in buttermilk and bran mixture. Stir in flour and salt. Add to buttermilk mixture. Spoon into greased muffin tin. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.
