2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. margarine or butter
1 c. water
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs beaten
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
4 tbsp. cocoa

FROSTING:
1/2 c. butter
4 tbsp. cocoa
6 tbsp. milk
1 pkg. (16 oz.) powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts (optional)

CAKE:
Combine flour and sugar and set aside. Bring to a boil the shortening, margarine, water, and cocoa. While hot, pour the mixture over the flour and sugar mixture, then set aside. Mix the buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla, then add this mixture to the rest of the batter. Mix well. Pour into a large cookie sheet. Bake at 400º for 20 minutes.

FROSTING:
Bring the butter, milk and cocoa to a boil. Remove from heat. Add sugar, vanilla, and nuts. Spread over cake while both are hot.
