Approximately 4 cups of sifted flour
4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs well beaten
1 cup milk

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together 3 1/2 cups of flour,baking powder,spices and salt. Work shortening until creamy, add sugar gradually, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat well. Add flour mixture alternatively with milk, blending well. Add enough of 1/2 cup flour to handle and cut out 1/2 inch thick. Fry in fat 370º turning often. If desired,you may chill 1 hour before cutting.
Dust with sugar
