Soften: 1 packet dry active yeast in 1/4 C. lukewarm water
Sift Together: 3 3/4 C. flour and 1 1/2 tsp. salt into a mixing bowl
Cut In: 1 C. unsalted butter until particles are the size of small peas
Blend In: 2 beaten eggs, 1/2 C. sour cream, 1 tsp. vanilla and the yeast
mixture. Mix thoroughly. Cover and chill; at least 2 hours. Combine 1 1/2 C. sugar and 2 tsp. vanilla. Roll out half of the chilled mixture on a floured surface sprinkled with about 1/2 C. of the sugar and vanilla mixture. Roll out to a 16x8-inch rectangle. Sprinkle with about 1 Tbsp. vanilla sugar. Fold one end of dough over center. Fold the other end over to make 3 layers. Turn 1/4 way around and repeat rolling and folding twice, sprinkling board with additional vanilla sugar as needed. Roll out to 16x8-inch rectangle about 1/4-inch thick. Cut into 4x1-inch strips. Twist each strip 2 or 3 times. Place on ungreased baking sheets. Repeat with remaining dough and vanilla sugar.

Bake at 375 15 to 20 minutes until light and golden brown. Makes about 5 dozen twists.
