1 cup milk (lukewarm)
1 tsp. sugar
1 pkg. yeast
3 cups scalded milk
3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup honey
2 TB salt
1 tsp. baking powder
9 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in 1 cup of lukewarm milk and sugar. Let foam lightly before adding other ingredients. Cream shortening, eggs, sugar and honey together. Add salt and yeast mixture. Mix well. Add flour and baking powder.

Knead into a soft dough. Let rise in a warm place until double in size. Form dough into walnut size balls, placing one ball on top of a slightly larger ball. Let rise for one hour. Bake at 400ºF for 20-25 minutes. Brush tops with melted butter while baking.

Roasted Zwieback
Using the above recipe, form large buns, about 4-5" in diameter. Let rise for 1 hour. Bake at 400ºF for 30-35 minutes, until brown. Brush tops with melted butter while baking. Bake again at 250ºF to 325ºF until roasted dry to a golden brown color. Store in a cool dry place.
