8-16 cups finely chopped cucumbers (blended)
1-2 onions
1-3 bell peppers
1 TBSP alum
1/2 cup salt
1 can of pickling spices in bag
4-6 cups vinegar
1-2 boxes brown sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Wash and drain vegetables. Peel onions, remove seeds from peppers. Chop and measure all ingredients. Sprinkle with alum. Dissolve salt in water. Pour over vegetables. Let stand 3-4 hours. Drain. Cover vegetables with cool water. Let stand 1 hour. Drain. Add spices (tied in bag) and sugar to vinegar. Heat to boiling. Pour over vegetables. Let stand 12-18 hours. Simmer until hot through. If too dry, add more vinegar. Bring to boiling. Remove spice bag. Pour boiling hot into hot jars. Seal at once.

The ingredient table seems to be for one or two batches of relish.Mama's original copy of the recipe had tumeric but it was crossed out and changed to alum. I believe Mama and Grandma decided to switch to alum. I believe Mama got Grandma ruby to start using a blender for chopping the vegetables.
