2 c. flour
1 T. baking powder
2 tsp. sugar (I like to use more if we are eating with honey)
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. Crisco shortening or butter (we use Crisco)
2/3 c. milk

Directions:

Mix dry ingredients. Cut in shortening till mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in center. Add milk all at once; stir till moistened.

Drop biscuits about 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450º oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden on both top and bottom.

Or turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Quickly knead dough by gently folding and pressing dough 10 to 12 strokes or till nearly smooth. Pat or lightly roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut dough with a floured 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter.

I can't tell you the number of times we have made these biscuits over the years! They are taken out of our red and white, Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. Everyone in our house knows how to make them. They are quick, easy, inexpensive and wonderful. Serve with butter, honey or jam. Can use with gravy too.
