1/2 cup sugar
Dash of salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup warm milk
2 cups flour
2 eggs
2 packages of dry yeast with lukewarm water,about 1/2 cup in a separate cup

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together sugar,salt,shortening and milk.
Add 2 cups flour and 2 eggs.
Stir in yeast mixture;mix all together

Then put enough flour in until ready to knead, about 3-4 cups. Let rise for about 2 hours until double in size. Roll out and cut out donuts and let rise again for another 2 hours.
Fry in deep fryer in lard(around 3 pounds)
Make glaze with powdered sugar and water. Dip in glaze

My mother made donuts for many years for the Eskimo Inn and for others who asked. Sheila has carried on the tradition.
