salad oil or shortening for deep-frying
1 egg
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup unsifted all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
2 tbsp. granulated sugar
confections sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Using a deep-frying thermometer, slowly heat at least 2 inches of oil to 375º.

Beat egg with milk and salt. Gradually beat in flour. Add granulated sugar. Beating until smooth.

Preheat rosette iron in hot oil for about 30 seconds. Shake off excess oil then dip hot iron in batter, being careful not to let batter cover top of iron (design). Hold iron in batter for about 10 or 15 seconds; immediately immerse in hot fat. When rosette begins to brown, let it drop from the iron into the oil. Brown 30 seconds on each side.

Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with confectioners sugar before serving.
