3 tbsp. sugar
3 tbsp. shortening or butter
2 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
2 c. water and milk (1 c. each - heated)
4-4 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. instant yeast

Directions:
Directions:
Plain Buns: Put all ingredients in bread machine in order given. Put on dough setting. When risen, cut into 20 or 24 pieces. Shape into smooth buns. Place in pan, let rise in warm, humid place. When double in size, bake at 375ºF for about 15 minutes. Mix 1 tbsp sugar in 1 tbsp water and heat. Brush on buns when done, return to oven for 1 minute to dry the glaze.

Doughnuts: Same recipe, roll out to about 1/2" thickness. Cut out with doughnut cutter. Let rise. Deep fry.
Dip in glaze
Glaze: heat 1/4 c. milk, add 1 tsp. vanilla, blend in 2 c. sifted icing sugar.
