1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening (half butter)
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
2 - 2 1/2 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream both sugars, shortening and butter, egg and vanilla. Add salt, soda, cream of tartar and flour, mix well. Form 1 inch balls. Dip half of ball in water and then in sugar. Place sugar side up on cookie sheet, press down with two fingers. Bake at 425º F. for 8-10 minutes.
