Mix together in a small bowl or 2 cup measure and set aside:

1 cup buttermilk
2 one ounce bottles of red food coloring
3 tablespoons Nestles Quick
1/2 teaspoon almond extract

In a large bowl, cream together 1 1/2 cups sugar and 1/2 cup Crisco. Beat in 2 eggs.

In another bowl, combine 2 1/3 cups cake flour (sifted) with 1/4 teaspoon salt.

Add flour mixture to sugar/egg/Crisco bowl alternately with red buttermilk mixture, starting with flour.

Stir in 1 tablespoon vinegar, then 1 teaspoon baking soda.

Bake at 350º in two 9 inch round greased and floured pans or a 13 X 9 pan for approximately 40 minutes.
