1/3 Cup Shortening (or Margarine)
1 Cup Brown Sugar, packed
1 1/2 Cups Dark Molasses
2/3 Cup Cold Water
7 Cups Flour
2 tsp. Baking Soda
1 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. All Spice
1 tsp. Ground Ginger
1 tsp. Ground Cloves
1 tsp. Ground Cinnamon

Icing, candy &/or raisins to decorate

1. Mix together flour, baking soda, salt and spices. Set aside.

2. In separate bowl, mix shortening, sugar and molasses thoroughly. Stir in water. Stir in dry ingredients. Cover bowl and chill for about 1 hour.

3. Preheat Oven to 350º

4. Roll out dough to 1/4" thick on lightly floured surface. Cut out cookies as desired.

5. Place on greased cookie sheet far apart and bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until no imprint remains when touched lightly.

Wait until completely cooled before decorating.
