1 c. Crisco
1 c. Sugar
1 c. Brown Sugar
2 Eggs
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 c. Flour
1 tsp. Cream of Tartar
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 tsp. Salt
2 to 2-1/2 c. Oatmeal

Directions:
Directions:
Cream Crisco and sugars and beat in eggs and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients and mix into batter. Add oatmeal until a relatively stiff dough forms.

Roll into balls and press with glass sprinkled with sugar. Or roll into balls and then roll in sugar and don't flatten.

Bake in 375º oven for 12 minutes.

Who knows who Helga was--a friend of Grandma Davidson or the Holmbergs. I believe the recipe originally had coconut in it, but I'm not crazy about it.
