6 or 7 Granny Smith apples
Juice of 1/2 Lemon, strained
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup dark currants
1 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 tbsp. cold water
1 tbsp. butter, melted and cooled
1 pie shell

Topping:
1/3 cup butter, room temperature
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
1) Preheat oven to 425º Fahrenheit
2) Peel and slice enough apples 1/4 inch thick to make 6 cups
3) Toss the apples in a large bowl with lemon juice
4) Add the sugar, currants, flour, and spices
5) Toss lightly to distribute evenly
6) Add the water and butter and toss
7) Pile the mixture evenly into the pie shell
8) For the topping, using 2 knives, cut butter into flour until mixture is crumbly
9) Gently mix in sugars and spices
10) Pile the topping lightly over apples, covering the top completely
11) Bake for 10 minutes
12) Reduce heat to 325º Fahrenheit
13) Continue baking for 1 hour
14) Remove pie from the oven and allow it to cool slightly before serving
