2 c. light brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter (or margarine) softened
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
3 1/2 c. flour
1 c. chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Mix ingredients in order shown.
Shape into 4 loaves, and wrap in plastic wrap.
Let stand in refrigerator overnight.
Cut into 1/4" (approx.) slices using a knife with a thin, sharp blade. Keep slices uniform in thickness and shape.
Bake on a greased cookie sheet about 8 to 10 minutes. Remove cookies when they are a light brown.
350º oven.
