1 1/2 package split peas
1 quart water
Ham bone
1 onion (chopped)
2 chicken bouillon cubes
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp pepper
1 bay leaf
1 1/2 carrots (thinly sliced)
1 cup celery (chopped)

Directions:
Directions:
In large deep pot, combine peas, water, ham shank, onion, chicken bouillon and seasonings
Simmer uncovered for 1 1/2 hours
Remove ham shank; trim meat off bone and return meat to pot
Stir in carrots and celery
Simmer uncovered for an additional 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until soup reaches desired thickness

Short cut- let it simmer for about 1 hour before putting in the celery and carrots then let it simmer for another 40 minutes to an hour
