6 large yellow onions,thinly sliced (1/4 inch )
3 tab butter
1 1/2 tab olive oil
8 cups beef broth
1/2 cup white or red port wine
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Cut onion rings in half or cut onions in half lengthwise before slicing
Saute onions in a 4 to 5 quart covered pot in butter and oil until limp.cover and simmer slowly 15 minutes.Pour in broth and wine and simmer 1 hour.When serving, float a slice of buttered dry french toast sprinkled with shredded parmesan or gueyer cheese. If using ramekins to serve, place in 350 degree oven for10 minutes to melt.
