4 c granulated sugar
1 1/3 c dr pepper
4 oz grated unsweetened chocolate or 1/2 c cocoa
4 tbsp white corn syrup
1/2 c butter
2 tsp vanilla
1 to 2 c chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Put sugar, dr pepper, grated chcolate and corn syrup in heavy sauce pan. Cook very slowly, stirring constantly until thoroughly dissolved. Continue cooking on low medium heat until temperature of 236º or soft ball stage is reached. Cool at room temperature until luke warm. Add butter and vanilla. Beat until candy loses its shiny look; add nuts. Pour into buttered pans. When cold, cut into squares.
