Ingredients:  
2 quarts of water to 1 cup pickling salt
6 lbs of peeled small pickling white onions.
1 tsp alum (sour salt)

Brine:
6 cups vinegar
6 cups white sugar
Pickling spice tied in a bag.

Directions:
Directions:
Heat water and salt. Pour this over 6 lbs of peeled small onions in crock.

Next day pour off liquid, reheat same liquid and again cover onions.

The next day make new water/salt/alum mixture and cover onions.

Do this for 6 days (3 times new water/salt/alum mixture)

7th day
Wash brine off in warm water. Cover onions with water and 1 tsp alum. Let stand 24 hours then drain. Put onions in sealers and add brine.

Brine:
Bring vinegar, white sugar and pickling spices to a boil and boil 10 minutes, pour over onions. Seal.
