2 pkgs Active Dry Yeast
1/2 C. Very Warm Water (110-115 degrees)
1/2 C. Lukewarm Whole Milk, scalded, then cooled
1/2 C. Sugar
1 tsp Salt
2 Eggs
1/2 C. Shortening
4-1/2 to 5 C. Flour

Directions:
In mixing bowl dissolve yeast in water. Stir in remaining ingredients, except add only half the flour. Mix with spoon until smooth. Add enough remaining flour to handle easily; mix with hand or spoon. Turn onto lightly floured board and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Round up in greased bowl, bring greased side up, cover with cloth and let rise in warm place until double, about 1-1/2 hours. Punch down and let rise again until almost double, about 30 minutes.

Roll dough and then roll dough 1/3 inch thick. cut with doughnut cutter. Let rise again, uncovered on board until light 30 to45 minutes. Crust will form on dough. Fry in deep hot fat, 350º, about 3 minutes to brown lightly on both sides. Drain on paper towels. To sugar, place in plastic bag with sugar and shake.
