1 chocolate cake mix
1 8 oz sour cream
1 package 4 serving size instant chocolate pudding mix
1 cup milk
1/4 cup crème de cassis or brandy
1 16 oz can pitted dark sweet cherries
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 cup whipping cream
1/4 cup toasted slice almonds

Prepare cake mix according to package direction. Turn batter into a greased and floured 13x9x2 baking pan. Bake in a 350 degree oven 10 to 12 minutes. Cool completely in pan.

In large mixer bowl beat sour cream, dry pudding mix, 1/3 cup of the milk, and the crème de cassis till mixture if fluffy. Gradually add remaining milk, beating till smooth. Pour over cooled chocolate cake. Cover and chill.

Meanwhile, drain cherries, reserving 3/4 cup syrup. In a saucepan combine sugar and cornstarch. Gradually stir in the reserved syrup. Cook and stir over medium heat till thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir 1 minute more. Add drained cherries. Cool. Spread over chilled pudding layer. Cover and chill several hours or overnight. Before serving, whip cream to soft peaks. Pipe over cherry mixture in a lattice design. Sprinkle with nuts. Cut in squares and serve.
