2 cups light brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
4 teaspoons butter
3/4 cup date pieces
1 cup flour, sifted
3/4 cup pecans
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups boiling water
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Mix one cup sugar and two teaspoons butter. Sift flour, salt and baking powder together; add to sugar mixture. Stir in milk, dates and pecans. Pour into 8-inch square cake pan. Combine 1 cup sugar, 2 teaspoons butter and vanilla; pour over batter in baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
