1 c sugar
2/3 c Crisco or margarine
1 egg
1 c molasses
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp salt
3 1/2 c flour
1 c milk
1 c raisins or currants(optional)
10 x sugar for dusting

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together sugar, Crisco or margarine and egg. Add molasses. mix well. Sift together baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, salt and flour. Add to wet ingredients alternately with the milk until well combined. Add raisins or currants if desired.
Drop by tbsp 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets. Sprinkle top with powdered sugar before baking.
In a 375 degree oven, bake for 8 - 10 minutes or until leaving a slight indent when pressed with finger. Cool and store in airtight container.
