2 cups butter
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup water
2T light corn syrup
12 oz semi sweet chips

Directions:
Chop almonds fine, and toast in a slow oven until rich brown. Melt butter in large heavy saucepan over low heat. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Add water and syrup and continue cooking over low heat until it reaches 290 degrees on thermometer. Stir frequently while syrup cooks. Melt chocolate and put aside.
Remove syrup from heat and quick as a flash stir in 1 1/2 cups almonds. Pour thin layer about 1/4 inch thick into 2 large trays. When cool, spread top of brittle with thin coating of chocolate and sprinkle with 1/2 remaining almonds. Then when chocolate is firm, turn brittle on other side and repeat. When hard, crack into pieces.

oh man, this brings back memories. Delicious stuff that is probably responsible for lots of my silver fillings.
