1 c. water
2 sticks butter
4 T. cocoa
2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
2 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 t. vanilla
Frosting:
6 T. buttermilk
4 T. cocoa
1 stick butter
powdered sugar
1 t. vanilla

Note: I make my own buttermilk - milk plus 1 T. lemon juice. In medium saucepan cook water, butter and cocoa. Bring to a boil. In large mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, baking soda and salt. Combine liquid mixture with flour mixture. Add eggs, beat a little, then add buttermilk & vanilla. Beat. Bake at 350º on large cookie sheet, 11X17-in., for 20 minutes. Grease & flour cookie sheet.
Frosting: In medium saucepan cook buttermilk, cocoa and butter until it comes to a boil, then add enough powdered sugar to make a medium spreadable frosting, not too thick. Beat well and add 1 t. vanilla, beat. You can frost sheet cake while it's still warm.
