3 lbs. dried pears
2 lbs. cooked prunes
2 lbs. raisins
1 qt. walnuts
2 lbs. dried mixed fruit (apples, peaches -- NOT CANDIED)
Cinnamon
2/3 cup white sugar
1 qt. good wine (Dad liked Mogen David ONLY. "He was very spunky and would not eat the bread unless Mogen David was used.")

White bread recipe:
1/4 cup sugar
2 TBSP salt
Scant 1/2 cup dry yeast
3 1/2 cup lukewarm water
12 to 12 1/2 cups sifted flour
1/4 cup butter, melted and slightly cooled

In a large bowl, cut up pears into small pieces; add cooked prunes (diced and pits removed), raisins, nuts and dried mixed fruit cut into small pieces. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Pour wine over and let stand overnight. In the morning, make White Bread dough, (recipe below). Add the fruit/wine mixture at the same time the shortening and additional flour are added to bread. Let raise, knead down and then let raise again. Form into loaves. Bake slowly for one hour or so at 325º. Will keep for 3 weeks or more.

White Bread:
Dissolve sugar, salt and yeast in lukewarm water. Add 6 cups flour to the liquid and mix thoroughly. **Add fruit/wine mixture at this time. Add shortening and most of the remaining flour and mix well.
