1 cup dried dates, cut up
1 cup boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 cup butter
1 cup white OR brown sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup nuts
1 cup orange slice candy, cut small
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dates, boiling water and soda. Let this mixture stand for at least 5 minutes. Dust orange slice candy with flour. Mix all ingredients. Pour into loaf pans OR can use empty soup cans and fill 1/2 full. Bake at 325º for an hour or so -- depending on size of loaves. Bake until wooden pick comes out clean.
