3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup all purpose flour or 4 Tablespoons Cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk
2 Tablespoons butter
3 slightly beaten egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 9" baked pasty shell

Meringue
3 egg whites
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
6 Tablespoons sugar

Directions:
Directions:
In a saucepan, combine sugar, flour and salt; gradually stir in milk. Cook and stir 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir small amount of hot mixture into egg yolks; immediately return to hot mixture; cook 2 minutes(stirring constantly). Remove from heat. Add butter, vanilla and coconut. Pour into cooked pastry shell.

Meringue
Beat egg whites with vanilla and cream of tartar until peaks form. Gradually add sugar beating until stiff. Bake at 350' for 12 to 15 minutes.
