3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 c. plain flour
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Melt shortening in a saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat; let cool. Add sugar, molasses, and egg; beat well. Sift together flour, salt, soda, cloves, ginger and cinnamon. Add to sugar mixture. Mix well; chill for several hours. Form 1 inch balls, roll in additional sugar. Place on a lightly greased cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Bake in a preheated 375º for 8-10 minutes.
