1 pt. clams, shucked or 2 (71/2 oz.) cans minced or chopped clams
2 oz. salt pork or bacon
4 cups diced potatoes
1 cup water
1 cup clam juice
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups light cream
3 tbsp. flour
salt and pepper, to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Strain clams, reserving liquid. In large sauce pan, fry salt pork or bacon until crisp. Remove from pan. To the drippings, add water, clam juice, potatoes, onion, salt and pepper. Cook covered until potatoes are tender, about 20 minutes. Stir in clams, milk and 1 1/4 cups cream. Slowly blend the remaining 1/4 cup cream with the flour. Stir into the chowder. Cook only until bubbly and boiling.
