3 squares unsweetened chocolate
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup water

2 cups sifted cake flour
1 1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Glaze:
1 square semi sweet chocolate
1 T butter

Directions:
Directions:
Combine chocolate, butter, water in top of double boiler, heat over simmering water til chocolate melts. Remove from heat and cool.
Sift together cake flour, baking soda, salt.
Beat together eggs and sour cream, til blended in med. size bowl
Beat in sugar and vanilla; stir in cooled chocolate mixture
Beat in flour mixture, half at a time, just until smooth. (Batter will be thin)
Pour evenly into 2 greased and floured 8" round pans.
Bake at 350º for 40 minutes or til done.
Cool in pans on wire racks.
Loosen around edges with knife, turn out onto racks.
Make Fluffy White Frosting (see recipe on separate page) put 1/4 of frosting between layers and the rest on top and sides.
For Glaze: Melt 1 square semi sweet chocolate with 1 T butter in a cup set in hot water; stir 'til smooth. Drizzle over top of cake letting mixture drip down sides.

An image of Dear Abby's Chocolate Cake is seared into my mind. I remember a photo of this layer cake, with the dark chocolate insides and white frosting with chocolate glaze dripping down the side. And oh it was good. Dear Abby once again has the answer to life's uncertain questions - chocolate cake!
