1 cup currants
1 cup lexia or thompson raisins
1 cup sultana raisins
1 cup dates, cut up
1/2 cup mixed peel, fruit and cherries or more raisins

1/2 cup molasses
1 cup brown sugar
3 eggs beaten
1 cup bread crumbs
1 cup grated carrot
1 cup grated potato
1 1/2 cups suet

1 cup sour milk with 1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cloves
or
1 1/2 tsp allspice instead
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
3 cups flour

Mix raisins and fruits together. In a separated bowl mix molasses, sugar, eggs, bread crumbs, carrot, potato, and suet. Blend into raisin mixture. Add milk with baking soda in it. Add spices. Add enough flour to thicken , about 3 cups. Batter should be gooey. Steam pudding for 4 hours, bowls covered with tinfoil. Serve with hard sauce or you could use a lemon or custard sauce if you wish

This recipe is very old but I don't think it was the original family one. But close enough. Very traditional at Christmas time.
