8 granny smith apples, peeled and sliced
1 1/2 cups blueberries, fresh or frozen
2 tbsp corn starch
1/2 cup corn syrup
1 tsp lemon rind

Topping
2 cups flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
3/4 cup butter
1 cup milk
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp vanilla
2 tbsp each cornmeal and coarse sugar

Directions:

Toss apples, blueberries and cornstarch until evenly coated. Stir in corn syrup and lemon rind. Spread in a 13 x 9 pan (3 L) greased or sprayed with no stick coating

Mix flour, sugar baking powder and salt. Use a pastry cutter or 2 knives to cut butter into flour mix until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir together milk , egg and vanilla. Pour over dry ingredients and stir just until thick dough forms. Drop spoonfuls of dough evenly over fruit, close any large gaps with the back of a spoon. Sprinkle with cornstarch and sugar.

Bake at 375º for 50 to 55 minutes or until topping is brown and cooked through. Let stand for 15 minutes before serving.
