6 large Apples (peeled and cored)
1/2 c. butter
3/4 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
3 c. water
2 c. white sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 double recipe pastry pie crust.

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º: butter a 9x13 pan.
On a lightly floured surface, roll pastry into a large rectangle,24x16. (can divide dough in half,easier to work with.) Cut dough into 6 squares. Place an apple on each square. cut butter into 8 pieces. Place a piece butter in the opening of the apple.(remaining butter will be for the sauce). Divide brown sugar between the 6 apples , putting some in the hole of the apple and the remaining around the bottom of the apple. Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg on apples. Wet the corners of your pastry and bring opposite corners together at the top of the apple and repeat with remaining two corners. Press together to completely sealing in apple. Repeat with all apples and place in baking dish.

In sauce pan , combine water,white sugar,vanilla and reserved butter. Place over medium heat and bring to a boil . Boil for 5 minutes and then carefully pour over dumplings. (will seem like a lot,but use all sauce).
Bake for 50 to 60 minutes.
When serving place in little dish and spoon some of the sauce over each dumpling.
