1 1/2 lbs. beef stew meat, cut into 1 inch cubes
2 T. cooking oil
2 medium carrots, shredded
1 medium onion, sliced
1 8-ounce can tomato sauce
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1/4 c. vinegar
1 T. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. salt
1 T cold water
2 T. cornstarch
Rice or noodles, cooked

In a 3-quart saucepan, brown half the meat at a time in hot oil; drain. In same saucepan, combine meat, carrots, onion, tomato sauce, water, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and salt. Cover and cook on low heat until meat is tender, about 1 1/2 hours. Blend 1 T. cold water and cornstarch. Add to stew; cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Serve over rice or noodles.
