1 c. flour
1 c. milk
1/2 tsp. salt
1-3 tsp. sugar
1 egg

Additional ingredients:
Crisco solid (enough for about 2" in pan)
Powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix first 5 ingredients thoroughly. Heat about 2 " of oil (Crisco solid works best) in a shallow pan to 365º. Iron skillet is perfect. Heat a Rosettes or Patty Shell tool in the oil for 15 seconds. Dip into batter just to the top edge. Place into oil until it lets loose. Cook until golden and crispy. Flip. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Dust with powdered sugar.

We grew up calling these butterflies because our Nona had a tool shaped like a butterfly. You can use any shape and call them anything you would like.
