1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup butter or margarine
½ tsp baking soda
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 ½ cups oatmeal
¼ tsp salt
date filling (3/4 lb)

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt. Rub in butter with tips of fingers, add sugar and oatmeal. Mix well. Spread ½ the crumbs in a greased 8x14 pan. Pat smooth cover with date filling evenly, then cover with the remaining crumbs. Pat down and make smooth. Bake at 325F for 30-35 minutes. Increase heat slightly and bake a few minutes longer to lightly brown the mixture. Cut into squares while hot and allow to cool in the pan.
