"The most remarkable thing about my mother is that for thirty years she served the family nothing but leftovers. The original meal has never been found."--Calvin Trillin

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
HISTORY OF PIRATE'S GROG: The original reason alcohol was added to ship water was to help disguise the foul taste of the ship water which would soon become stagnant and algae infested. Initially, beer was used but was replaced with rum after the British took and developed Jamaica. Lime juice was initially added to help make the taste more palatable, and thus, the Royal Navy "accidentally" discovered a preventative for scurvy and other Vitamin C deficient related problems. It's because of the large amounts of limes and their juices that the Royal Navy went through that the British inherited the nickname, "Limey's." 'Grog' is not issued daily anymore in the Royal Navy. However, all naval ships carry a stock of rum which can be issued at the Captain's discretion. The origin of the actual word 'grog' is old Norse, and literally means 'to dilute.'

NOTE: Great Halloween or Pirate Party beverage. Can also be made with Lemon and Lime Kool-Aid drink mixes if concentrates aren't readily available.
