1/2 CUP SUGAR
1/2 CUP FIRMLY PACKED BROWN SUGAR
2 EGG YOLKS
3 SQUARES 1 OZ EACH UNSWEETENED CHOCOLATE MELTED
1 TSP VANILLA
1 3/4 CUPS UNSIFTED ALL PURPOSE FLOUR
1/2 TSP DOUBLE ACTING BAKING POWDER
1/4 TSP BAKING SODA
1/4 TSP SALT
1 TBSP MILK

TOPPING
2 EGG WHITES
1/8 TSP SALT
1/4 CUP SUGAR
1 CUP FLAKED COCONUT (OPTIONAL)
T TBSP FLOUR

IN MEDIUM BOWL ON MEDIUM SPEED, CREAM TOGETHER BUTTER, SUGAR, AND EGG YOLKS UNTIL FLUFFY. MELT CHOCOLATE IN DOUBLE BOILER ADD VANILLA. LET COOL. COMBINE CHOCOLATE WITH EGG MIX. COMBINE ALL DRY INGREDIENTS TOGETHER. ADD TO CREAM MIXTURE ALTERNATELY WITH MILK. BEAT UNTIL JUST BLENDED. SET ASIDE.

TOPPING:
IN A MIXING BOWL BEAT EGG WHITES AND SALT UNTIL STIFF, GRADUALLY ADD THE SUGAR. FOLD IN FLOUR AND COCONUT. SET ASIDE.

DROP BATTER BY ROUNDED SPOONFULS ONTO GREASED COOKIE SHEET. TOP WITH 1/2 TSP MERINGUE MIX. BAKE FOR 6-8 MINUTES AT 375 OR TILL GOLDEN BROWN.
