1 TBSP ACTIVE DRY YEAST
4 CUPS ALL PURPOSE FLOUR
1/2 CUP INSTANT MASHED POTATOES
1/2 CUP SUGAR
1 TSP SALT
1 EGG BEATEN
1 CUP MILK SCALDED AND COOLED
1/2 CUP SHORTENING
1/2 WHITE KARO SYRUP
1/2 CUP WATER WARM

GLAZE:
1 3/4 CUP POWDERED SUGAR
1/2 CUP HOT WATER
1/2 TSP VANILLA
1 TSP MILK
PINCH SALT

Directions:
COMBINE INGREDIENTS IN ORDER SHOWN TO BREAD MACHINE, SET ON DOUGH CYCLE. DOUGH WILL BE VERY STIFF. TURN OUT ONTO FLOURED SURFACE LET RISE TO TRIPLE SIZE. ROLL OUT TO 1/3 INCH THICK, CUT AND LET RISE ON FLOURED SURFACE FOR ABOUT 1 HOUR. FRY IN OIL AT 400 DEGREES TILL GOLDEN BROWN 2-3 MINUTES. THEN GLAZE.
