1 18 OZ BOX DEVILS FOOD CAKE MIX
2 EGGS
2 TBSPS WATER
2 TBSPS VEG OIL
1/2 CUP UNSWEETENED COCOA POWDER
INSTANT CHOCOLATE DRINK POWDER (IE; NESTLE QUICK)


FILLING
1 CUP SHORTENING
5 CUP POWDERED SUGAR
1 TSP VANILLA
1 (.25OZ) UNFLAVORED GELATIN
1/4 CUP COLD WATER

MIX TOGETHER CAKE MIX, EGGS, WATER, COOKING OIL AND COCOA POWDER MIX UNTIL YOU CAN SHAPE IT INTO A LARGE BALL. LET STAND FOR 20 MINUTES. RESHAPE INTO 1/2 IN BALLS.
PLACE ON GREASE COOKIE SHEET 2 INCHES APART. FLATTEN EACH COOKIE WITH THE BOTTOM OF GLASS GREASED ONCE THEN DIPPED INTO INSTANT CHOCOLATE DRINK MIX.
BAKE AT 400 DEGREES FOR 8 MINUTES. REMOVE COOKIES AT ONCE AND QUICKLY FLATTEN WITH DUSTED SPATULA. LET COOL.

FILLING:
SOFTEN 1 ENVELOPE UNFLAVORED GELATIN IN 1/4 CUP COLD WATER. SET IN HEAT PROOF CUP IN SIMMERING PAN OF WATER UNTIL MIXTURE BECOMES CLEAR. SET ASIDE TO COOL. CREAM TOGETHER SHORTENING, POWDERED SUGAR, AND VANILLA, MIX UNTIL SMOOTH ADD THE COOLED GELATIN BEAT FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES. VERY DENSE. USE 1 TBSPS FILLING PER COOKIE. COVER FILLING WITH ANOTHER COOKIE AND PRESS TOGETHER TO SPREAD THE FILLING.
