1/2 C. coarse ground yellow grits
2 C. boiling water
1 tsp. garlic salt
1/2 stick butter
1 egg, beaten
milk to 1/2 c (after added to egg in a 1 c measuring cup)
1 roll garlic cheese (chopped fine) OR 2 c. shredded cheddar
1 4 oz. can chopped green chiles

Directions:
Directions:
Bring water to a boil in a 2 quart saucepan. Add grits and garlic salt, and stir constantly till thick.
Remove pan from heat, add butter and egg/milk combo.
After butter has melted, add cheese and chiles-mix well.

Pour in a buttered 2 qt casserole dish- bake @ 325º for 1 hour.
(Can be expedited by heating in microwave)

Mom got this recipe from Joy Sebring (a pastor's wife),but I'm pretty sure Joy didn't have grits become synonymous with her name. These were a must have at every family get together.
