Cut potatoes into bite size pieces (cut enough for the amount of people you want to serve) and place into pot. Dice 1/4 small onion for each person and put into pot with potatoes Cover potatoes with water, salt the water, and boil until the potatoes are tender (do not overcook or they will get mushy). Drain and put the contents back into the pot. Put in enough milk to cover. Add a dollop of butter for each serving and heat on low until butter is melted. Salt and pepper to taste.
