1 gallon cucumbers
1 cup salt
2 1/2 tbsp. alum
20 cups vinegar
12 cups sugar

Directions:

Slice cucumbers about 1/4 inch thick. Put in a jar and cover with cold water. Add salt and let stand for 2 days. Drain and wash through with water. Cover with water and add alum. Let stand for 2 days. Drain and wash through with water. Cover with clear water and let stand for 2 days. Bring to boil vinegar and sugar. Add cucumbers and let boil 30 minutes. Place in jars and seal while hot.
