1/4 lb. German chocolate in 1/2 c. boiling water
2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
2 1/2 c. flour
4 egg yolks
4 egg whites
1 tsp. soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Frosting:
1 c. whipping cream
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. coconut (Angel Flake)
1/2 c. nuts
3 egg yolks

Directions:
Directions:
Oven - 350º.

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg yolks
Put baking soda in buttermilk and add with dry ingredients. Add this to sugar mixture.
Put in chocolate mixture last.
Fold in beaten egg whites.
Makes 3 9" layers
Bake at 350ºfor 25-30 min.

For Frosting:
Mix all ingredients together. Cook until thick, about 5 min. Do not beat.
Spread between layers and on top.
Leave sides bare.
