Ingredients: |
Ingredients: 8 oz. baking chocolate (I like Baker's German's Sweet Chocolate) 4 cups milk (you can use any kind, I typically do 1%) corn starch water
|
|
Directions: |
Directions:1. Break the chocolate into small squares and place in a pot with the milk. Heat very slowly, constantly stirring, until the chocolate is FULLY incorporated into the milk (when you remove your spoon, it should no longer have distinct specks of chocolate on it). This will take a while.
2. Put a spoonful of corn starch in a small bowl and mix with water, just enough so that it dissolves. Pour this into the hot chocolate while stirring.
3. Once the hot chocolate has reached your desired thickness, it's ready to serve. Normally, I wait until a spoon removed from the hot chocolate remains coated. |

Notes: My parents are from Cuba, and they like to joke that I must have been switched at birth because of how much I love winter. But one of my favorite parts of cold, snowy days is warming up inside with one of these very Cuban drinks (This and the Crème de Vie). The flavors are opposites -- one a thick chocolate, the other more like a liquid flan -- but both are rich, creamy, and delicious. Both are very sweet, so small servings are generally enough.
