¼ c. dried currants (or fresh berries or dried cranberries)
1T. brandy (I’ve used bourbon or rum in a pinch)
½ t. grated orange peel (+)
2 c. flour
6 t. sugar
1 T. baking powder
¼ t. salt
½ c. butter
½ buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
In a small microwave safe bowl mix fruit, brandy and orange peel. Heat in microwave just until warm-15 to 20 seconds.
In another bowl mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in butter to ¼” lumps, stir in fruit mixture.
Add buttermilk, stir till just moist. If it’s too crumbly sprinkle a few drops of buttermilk.
Pat into a ball and knead in bowl just until the dough holds together.
Place dough on a buttered cookie sheet and flatten into ½” thick disk. With a floured knife cut into wedges (8). Leave wedges in place. Brush with buttermilk and sprinkle with sugar.
Bake 400 degrees.
